Ekiti SSG resigns to contest 2022 governorship election

The Secretary to the Ekiti State Government, Biodun Oyebanji, has resigned his appointment to contest in the 2022 governorship election in the state on the platform of the All Progressive Congress.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Kayode Fayemi, Yinka Oyebode said, Oyebanji’s resignation “as conveyed in a letter to the governor dated December 3, 2021, takes effect from Tuesday, December 7.”
Oyebode, said this in a statement titled, ‘Ekiti SSG, Oyebanji, resigns from cabinet.’ on Tuesday.

He said, “Oyebanji had cited his decision to contest the forthcoming governorship election in the state for his resignation as SSG.

“Governor Fayemi, in accepting Oyebanji’s resignation, thanked the former SSG for his remarkable contribution to the administration since inception in 2018 and wished him well in his future endeavours”.

Fayemi had last week given December 18 deadline to political appointees nursing governorship ambition in the 2022 election to resign.

This was as APC leaders in Ijero Council area of Ekiti State on Tuesday endorsed the former SSG for the party’s governorship ticket.

The APC leader in the council and House of Representatives member, Omowumi Ogunlola, said the decision was reached after about three hours meeting at Ijero Civic Centre in Ijero-Ekiti, Ijero Council area of the state which was attended by leaders in the council.
