Kano to Ban side by side male, female sitting in Keke Napep

With effect from January 2020, Kano State Government will ban commercial tricycles operators from conveying male and female passengers in same vehicle.

The state Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Garba, who confirmed the plan in Kano on Thursday, said the ban was to comply with the Sharia law.

He also said the measure would prevent the temptation to indulge in immorality.

Earlier, the Commander-General, Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheik Haruna Sani, said the action became necessary to address the disregard for Islamic laws by commercial drivers, especially tricycle operators in the name of transacting business.

According to Sani, the law stipulates six months suspension, a N5,000 fine or both for any defaulter.

He added that the agency would collaborate with Kano Road Transport Agency and other agencies to ensure strict compliance.
