YSM is a central platform for self determination group leaders, not a coalition of groups - G8

YSM is a central platform for collaboration and common decision making for all self determination leaders worldwide.

According to the statement, it is to correct the wrong impression circulating about the autonomy of groups in the newly formed YSM a collaboration platform of all Self Determination leaders in Nigeria and the Diaspora .

Reacting to the story, one of the members of G8 clarified the issue as follows:

"People should get the narrative right from the onset so as not to get confused."

1. Ìlànà Ọmọ Oodua has not merged with any group so there is really no need to fear or promote  rivalry between the groups 

2. Leaders of all Self-Determination groups and Yoruba people worldwide clamoured for a collaborative platform where they can all share ideas and YSM was set up.

3. YSM is a collaborative platform where leaders of all Self-Determination organisations can have the means to relate with one another and form a united force to speak to the Nigerian government and International communities.

Ìlànà ọmọ Oodua or any other Yoruba self-determination Organizations is not under any organisations, they are all partners in progress. Just as we have G7, G20 nations, You can never say Britain is under America because they are both part of G7 or say America is under China or vice versa. They all see themselves as partners in progress for a peaceful coexistence and mutual respect and understanding.

Mum jailed after leaving her toddler to starve to death while she travelled to celebrate her birthday

A teen mum who left her daughter at home to starve to death, while she traveled to celebrate her 18th birthday, has been jailed for nine years.

Verphy Kudi abandoned 20-month-old Asiah at her flat in Brighton, England, for almost six days while she partied in London and Coventry.

She left her flat on December 5 and traveled to London to spend her birthday with her boyfriend.

On Dec 7, she attended a 1990s music concert in Elephant and Castle, south London, and had a DJ announce her birthday to partygoers while her daughter was alone at home. She stayed out until 4am at the concert.

On Dec 9, she attended another party in Coventry then went back to London before finally returning home on December 11.

Unfortunately, Asiah died from influenza and starvation after being left unattended at the flat, prosecutors said.

Kudi, now 19, returned to her flat on December 11, 2019, and found her daughter lying on the floor. She was "incoherent, distressed, and distraught" as she called paramedics.

Medics arrived at 6.12pm on December 11, 2019, before Asiah was rushed to Brighton’s Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital but could not be saved and was confirmed dead on arrival.

 

Verphy Kudi pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court today, August 6.

Sentencing Kudi, Judge Christine Laing QC said: "Asiah was alone in that flat for six days unable to do anything to draw attention to her plight.

"She was a helpless child and relied completely on you as her mother to provide for her needs.

"It is almost unbearable to contemplate her suffering in the final days of her life, suffering that she endured so that you could celebrate your birthday and the birthdays of your friends as a carefree teenager.

Judge Laing added: "It goes without saying that this is a particularly tragic case and it no doubt raises strong emotions in all who hear of it, but everyone should bear in mind that the charge I sentence you for is one of manslaughter, it being accepted that you did not intend to cause Asiah death nor to cause her really serious harm."

In a statement released by Sussex Police, Asiah and Verphy’s family said: "We are saddened by the current situation and as a family, we have many unanswered questions.

 

"Verphy has experienced so much at such a young age and we have always done what we can to support her.

"As a family we are in the midst of an unbearable tragedy. Not only are we coming to terms with what has happened today but we are also still grieving for our beloved Asiah.

"We would be grateful if our privacy can be respected at this moment."

History was made on August 7th 2021 when all Socio-Cultural Determination groups in Yorubaland and diaspora came together to form the Yoruba Self Determination Movement-YSM as the Umbrella body. 

The new Central Platform for Collaboration will serve as a common decision making and action by all Yoruba Self Determination Organisations worldwide. 

In a press statement released by the G8 - an independent group of young minds with networks around the world but based in UK & USA, working on modalities of bringing all groups in Yorubaland together, stated that the success of the event is historic as the August 07 1963 was a day in history, when the Mid-Western State was created out of the old Western Region but despite the division, the Region was still dominated by Yorubas. Major decisions taken at this unique August 7th 2021 Congress were: 

(a) The organisation structure framework was unanimously approved with 15 member Yoruba Self Determination Council to be appointed at the next Congress, which will be inaugurated  on Sept 23rd 2021-another in history when the Yoruba Kiriji Peace Treaty was signed in 1886. 

(b) The Yoruba Self Determination Movement-YSM will be constituted as the Congress will include leaders of all accredited groups in Yorubaland and worldwide 

(c) Yoruba Self Determination Movement Committee-YSMC, will be constituted by nominations of representatives from each of the accredited groups with core competence areas in 17 Committees which were preliminarily approved by the Congress meeting of August 07 2021.

Sunday Igboho: Yoruba monarchs in Benin Republic meet

Following the arrest and detention of the Yoruba Nation freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho, Yoruba monarchs in Benin Republic met behind closed-doors on Sunday ahead of court hearing on Monday.

Recall that the Yoruba activist who was arrested in Cotonou alongside his wife on Monday night while attempting to fly to an European country, is scheduled for court hearing on his extradition on Monday.

Igboho, who is currently in the custody of security operatives in the West African country, was in court on Thursday before the adjustment of the hearing.

In an effort to ensure the Oduduwa Republic pioneer is not extradited to Nigeria, the monarchs met in the Palace of Alajohoun of Adjohoun on Sunday.

The Alajashe of Ajase from Port Novo, Alajohoun of Adjohoun, Onikoyi Abesan, and Oba of Seme were all present at the meeting.

Man shot while approaching Buhari in Kebbi

An unidentified man was shot in the foot while attempting to move towards President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in Argungu, Kebbi State. The president was in the state for the 2020 Argungu Fishing Festival.

In a video obtained at the festival, the man was seen moving close to the president.

It was believed that the man had penetrated the president’s tight security and attempted to go close to him before Buhari’s security detail prevented him and shot him in the foot.

Operatives of the Department of State Security were said to have later carried the man to an unknown location. When contacted on the telephone last night, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed the incident, saying the man was an overzealous supporter of the president who did not know that he had crossed the line of security. Shehu said: “He is an overzealous supporter who wanted to reach the president clearly out of goodwill. He didn’t know the limit and security implication. He didn’t know that he was crossing the line of security.” But sources alleged that the man was an aggrieved Nigerian who wanted to attack the president.

Gunmen attack Gospel musician Atorise

Nigerian gospel artiste, Lanre Teriba aka Atorise, has been attacked by unknown gunmen suspected in Lagos.

The incident happened on Saturday night at the Berger end of the Lagos/ Ibadan expressway while the singer was returning from an engagement. 

He escaped the attacked but he is seriously injured and currently on admission in an undisclosed hospital.
