Lagos Mobile Court Arraigns 37 Traffic Offenders

The Lagos State Task Force on Environment and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit on Tuesday arraigned 37 traffic offenders before the Special Offences (Mobile) Court in Oshodi.

The defendants were arraigned on offences bordering on driving against traffic, driving on the BRT corridor, plying the highway with motorcycles, and endangering the lives of other road users.

The state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, who led the prosecution team, said the offences were punishable under Section 66 (b) of Lagos State Transport Law, 2012.

He said, “The present administration has zero-tolerance for the violation of the law. The state will continue to prosecute traffic offenders until sanity is restored on our roads and law-abiding citizens are allowed to commute without being impeded by unlawful individuals.”

Magistrate Omobola Salawu sentenced the defendants to 100 days of community service and fines ranging from N15,000 to N20,000.

Men discovers another Zaria Torture home

Again, another torture home was raided in Zaria, Kaduna State on Tuesday. 

At the centre, known as ‘Malam Aliyu Mai Adakan Salatul Fatih’ in Zaria, eleven inmates mostly men and children were rescued. Unlike the two centres, Malam Niga Rehabilitation Centre and another managed by Malam Ismaila Abubakar that were raided recently in Rigasa, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, the Zaria rehabilitation centre, has no female inmates.

Canada: Justin Trudeau wins election

Justin Trudeau will hold on to power only as head of a minority government, according to projections by Canadian media.

National broadcaster CBC says his Liberal party is expected to claim the most seats in parliament, securing him a second term.

Before the vote, opinion polls showed Trudeau neck-and-neck with the Conservative leader Andrew Scheer, but the Liberals had won 155 out of 304 electoral districts that had reported results by 1am local time.

However, Trudeau is expected to fall short of the 170 seats needed to secure a second majority government. His grip on power will be weakened and he is expected to be forced to work with smaller left-wing parties to pass legislation.

The result follows a rocky campaign for Trudeau. “Four years after the photogenic Liberal leader swept to power promising ‘sunny ways’ after nearly a decade of Conservative rule,” says The Guardian , he “struggled to inspire voters as he campaigned for re-election”.

Last month, Time magazine published a photograph of Trudeau wearing brownface when he was a teacher in 2001. Trudeau apologised and agreed it was a racist photo.

Responding to the results, Donald Trump tweeted : “Canada is well served. I look forward to working with you toward the betterment of both of our countries!”

One Canadian analyst was less gracious. “We’re seeing a much-needed chastening of the Liberal party,” said David Moscrop, a political scientist at the university of British Columbia. “Some of [the result] is a backlash against Liberal arrogance and entitlements. The Liberals set the bar so high they’re bound to run into it.”

Whether Trudeau forms a fully-fledged coalition remains to be seen. He might instead agree a confidence-and-supply deal in which junior partners will agree to support him on individual pieces of legislation.

DSS arrests 6 UI staff over alleged involvement in examination malpractices

Men of the Department of State Service (DSS), have arrested no fewer than six staff of the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre over their alleged involvement in examination malpractices.

It was gathered on Monday that the six staff were arrested at the instance of the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Idowu Olayinka.

It was gathered that they were arrested following their alleged complicity for smuggling scripts for students writing examinations, fabrications of CBT results and falsification of clearance mostly for students.

It was gathered that those picked up by the security agency were top officials of the Distance Learning Centre who could not be left out in the examination process.

A source within the Distance Learning Centre gave the name of those who have been arrested to include; Edward Eborgu (Head of UI DLC software Unit), Kehinde Ajao (Head Student Support), Shola Akintunde (Executive Officer and Media representative), Ademola Okunola (IT personnel), one Lanre (IT personnel) and a certain David in the Director’s office.

He said that the Vice Chancellor was miffed by the development and approved thorough investigations into the matter.

He added that the staff were arrested last Thursday.

It was gathered that information leading to the arrest of the six staff, came from students who had been arrested during the ongoing examinations and a protest complain from students about illegal dealings of some non-teaching staff.

Our correspondent, who visited the centre on Monday, gathered that some staff of the centre reportedly stayed away from the DLC center located along Sasha since when the six staff were arrested.

It was gathered from some of the staff and students on Monday that investigations are still ongoing to get more persons connected to the examination racketeering.

But, the Director of Communication at the university, Mr. Tunji Oladejo, when contacted, however, said that nothing of such occurred.

Oladejo, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, added that he contacted the Director of DLC, Professor Soji Aremu, who said that such thing never happened.

He said “I have contacted the Director of DLC, Professor Aremu, who said that such thing never happened. There is nothing like that. It never happened. I just spoke with the director and he said that, it is not true.

“I am telling you that based on what the Director said, nothing of such occurred.”

But, a source at the DSS office located at Alalubosa area, Aleshiloye Ibadan said that the six staff were arrested.

“Yes it is true. They were arrested. They were arrested and they area still there. But, they are releasing them now. Some people came to bail them but they are still in the DSS office as I am talking to you now.”

Kaduna torture centre inmates chained for eight years – Commissioner

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, on Sunday said some of the inmates rescued at the Niga Rehabilitation and Skill Acquisition Centre, Rigasa in Igabi Local Government Area of the state were chained for eight years.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State led some policemen to raid the centre on Saturday where 147 women, men as well as children were rescued.

All about the 86th remembrance of St. Moses Orimolade

The Cherubim and Seraphim Christian society held the 86th annual remembrance of its founder St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase in grand style with the theme “Lift up your head, o ye gates” at the Mercy land in Ikare Akoko, Ondo state.

Upon saying their greetings, the parties conveyed to the palace of His Majesty Oba Kadiri Sadiu the Olukare of Ikare land and Palace of Oba Samuel Adedoyin The Owa Ale of Ikare Land to pay homage to royalty and plead with the king to help unite all C&S factions in Ikare land. Afterwards, they proceeded to the Oriomolade Family house where they met with the Arole Orimolade and prayers were made.

In another development, the congregation of the C&S  led by Apostle A. O Oladokun-Aduragbemi of C&S Church Noah's Ark Worldwide trooped in mass to ascend the mountain popularly known as Oke meji takotabo, history has it that St. Moses Orimolade used to pray on this mountain and the water that springs forth from this mountain has healing powers, prayers were said on this mountain, some members of the congregation went into trance and prophesies were made.

Also, a meeting of all prophets was also held for the purpose of bringing back those prophets who have strayed from the path. The Most Reverend Olu Abiola O.B.E sensitized prophets present with his speech titled ‘Christian ministry – Profession or Vocation’ he insisted that prophets were doing the wrong things, in his words “ Are you called or you just decide to be a minister of the gospel? Because I know some people who have already  decided what they want out of the ministry even before they started.” He, therefore, re-anointed all the prophets and implored them to turn a new leaf.

In an interview with our correspondent, Apostle A. O Oladokun-Aduragbemi of C&S Church Noah's Ark Worldwide disclosed that he believes this year’s event has impacted several lives including those who came from all over the country and abroad and those watching via live stream from all over the world.

At the online viewership statistics, it was gathered that over 10,000 viewers watched the event throughout the world via podium radio&Television media.
