Zamfara Government purchased drone and not firearms — Commissioner

Zamfara State Government has stated that it purchased a drone and not firearms as reported by some media platforms. 

 

The state's Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Magaji Dosara told Punch that the drone was purchased through due process and nothing was done illegally. 

He said; 

"Zamfara State Government has followed all the processes in securing the drone to facilitate security agencies in carrying out their legitimate duties to protect the lives and property of Zamfara people.

“The government is worried by the killings, abduction and rustling of cattle of the innocent people in the state by bandits. Therefore, all efforts to curtailing the menace are being explored by the government, as it is the basic function of government anywhere in the world is to ensure the safety and security of the lives and property of its citizens.

“The government of Zamfara is ever ready to take any steps that are not against the laws of our land to tackle the menace of insecurity.

“If anyone is offended by the actions of the Zamfara State Government to tackle banditry, it is his own cup of tea, as long as the action followed all due processes in the procurement of the drone and we have never violated any laws in this regard.”

23-year-old student arrested for stealing her lover's phone and cash

A 23-year-old Kenyan student has been charged with stealing a phone worth Sh143,000, cash, and passport all valued at Sh262,440 from her boyfriend.

 

Veronica Njeri is accused of stealing the phone, a wallet containing USD800 and Sh30,000, and a passport from Sierra Leone diplomat, Kabba Ibrahim on November 8 jointly with another accomplice at large at Black Rose apartments.

Njeri, a third-year student at a local private university, is said to have called Ibrahim whom she’d just met two days earlier, and informed him that she was drunk at a nearby entertainment joint and needed help.

Ibrahim drove to the club in a cab and met Njeri in the company of a woman she introduced as just a friend.

He took both of them to his house in a cab and paid the cab driver who left immediately as he proceeded to his house with his two-day girlfriend.

After moments in his sitting room, he took Njeri to the washrooms to vomit leaving the other woman in the sitting room.

They spent around 10 minutes in the washrooms and upon return, the other woman had left with the items leaving behind her mobile phone which did not have a SIM card.

Ibrahim left Njeri asleep in his house and went to report the matter to the police. After sobering up a day later, Njeri told police that she doesn’t know the woman she was in the company of when she called Ibrahim to pick her at the club located at a mall in Kilimani area.

She was arrested and charged with the theft.

Njeri denied the charges before senior principal magistrate Esther Boke of Kibera law courts and was released on a Sh300,000 bo9nd with surety of a similar amount and an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000.

The case will be mentioned on November 24.

This comes after Peter paid a visit to Paul Okoye's estranged wife and children in the US.

Singer Sophia Urista pulls down her pants live on stage and urinates on a male fan's face during festival set

The lead singer of an American rock band gave audience members at Welcome to Rockville festival a huge surprise. 

During the Welcome to Rockville festival at the Daytona International Speedway, Florida, Sophia Urista from band, Brass Against, pulled down her pants and urinated on a man’s face.

She was performing a cover of Rage Against the Machine’s song, Wake Up, when she invited the man from the front row to come up on stage for a “golden shower”.

The man, who appeared happy after he was invited, proceeded to lay down on the stage and let the urine flow onto his body and head.

The unusual scene lasted for more than 15 seconds before the man got up and spewed up some of the urine in the direction of the audience. 

The stunt sparked outrage on social media, with the New York collective forced to apologise, explaining that the singer “got carried away” and that it’s “not something you’ll see again at our show”.

“We had a great time last night at Welcome to Rockville,” Brass Against tweeted. “Sophia got carried away. That’s not something the rest of us expected, and it’s not something you’ll see again at our shows. Thanks for bringing it last night, Daytona.”

FG considering out-of-court settlement on VAT tussle - Finance Minister, Zainab Ahmed

Minister of finance, budget and national planning, Zainab Ahmed has revealed that the federal government is considering political paths to resolve the ongoing value-added tax (VAT) tussle.

Zainab revealed this during an interview on Channels Television. The Minister who noted that there will be a positive political solution, added that she hopes the issue can be solved by sitting on the table, and not on the pages of newspapers or through disagreements. 

She said; 

“I have to do this carefully because they are issues in court, and I am not supposed to be talking about issues in court.

“But, I do hope that this problem can be solved by sitting on the table, not on the pages of newspapers, not disagreements in court because it is possible to solve it on the table.

“There’s a lot of effort going on right now. I said I didn’t want to discuss it because it is in court so I have to be careful.

“Yes, there will be a positive political solution. We are working towards an out-of-court solution.”

Oyo tribunal fines 60 persons for allegedly violating environmental laws

The Oyo State Environmental Tribunal court has fined sixty persons over various sanitation infractions.

It was gathered that the sixty persons were fined on Saturday for allegedly flouting the state’s environmental sanitation laws during sanitation on Saturday. The violators were fined at Bodija, Iwo-road, Beere, Sapati, Elewi-Odo, Ojoo, Gate, Oke-bola, and other locations in Ibadan.

Magistrate, Mr. Raheem Wasiu in his judgment, said the offenders were caught dumping refuse in unauthorized areas and are guilty of violating the environmental sanitation and waste management laws.

He charged the violators a fine of between ?5,000 and ?25,000 for their offences.

Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Abiodun Oni, in his remarks, commended the Magistrate for his professionalism.

He added that the present administration in the state, will not leave any stone unturned towards regaining the environmental sanity in the state.

“No matter how we take care of our environment, it usually has an impact on every stakeholder’s health and as soon as we enforce the law, it goes a long way in making the state a healthy one.

“Oyo state is a pacesetter state, a state we should be proud of and strife in making it safe and healthy for all and sundry”.

OFILI EMERGES THE NEW FACE OF PODIUM CINEMA

Francisco Ofili was yesterday, 31st of October 2021 declared winner for 2021 Face of Podium Cinema Contest.

According to the statement received from Podium Films Cinema, the contestants were  given series of tasks among which were monologue and idea tasks, Six contestants made it to the finals.

The statement indicated that the contest which lasted for Two months, started in August to 31st of October 2021.

In her remarks, the host and Chief Executive Officer of Podium International, Coach Titi Aboyade Onabanjo said millions of naira was invested in the “Face of Podium Cinema” contest.

She mentioned that each contestant were given equal chances to express their talents through the various task.  

She added that each finalist will be awarded scholarship to study at the Podium Film Academy alongside cash prizes.

Speaking shortly after the show with the Newsmen was the Winner Francisco Ofili who said he was happy at the result of the contest and that the event was keenly contested for him.

According to Ofili " I am not ungrateful and I will do my best to elevate the brand."

Also speaking, one of the Penallist for the contest Babalola Adekunbi who established that the contest was a serious one for the Judges.

She commended the efforts of the organizers and the contestants for a job well done. 

Ayowole Solomon who doubled as the Tasks Manager and panellist advised the winners who will be awarded acting training scholarships to make good use of the opportunity availed them.
