UK: Boris Johnson announces 2-year-work visa for international students

The UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has announced the return of the two-year post-study work visa for international students.

According to BBC news, the new immigration route announced on Wednesday means that graduates in any subject will once again be able to stay in the UK for two years to find work after they graduate.

Currently, most international students reading bachelor’s and master’s degrees can stay and work for only four months.

The move reverses a decision made in 2012 by the home secretary Theresa May, who abolished the two-year post-study work visa that had made Britain an attractive place for international students, saying it was ‘too generous’.

That led to a sharp drop in students going to Britain.

The new immigration route will be available to international students who have successfully completed a course in any subject at undergraduate level or higher level at a Higher Education Provider which has a proven track record in upholding immigration checks and other rules on studying in the UK.

Also, students will need to have Tier 4 leave at the point the route is introduced. This includes students who start courses in 2020/21 at undergraduate level or above.

The new route enables eligible students to work or look for work, at any skill level, for two years after they graduate before needing to convert to another visa or having to leave the country.

According to the Prime Minister, this change would see students “unlock their potential” and begin careers in the UK.

BOG BLASTS SANWO OLU OVER LAGOS TRAFFIC

Babajide Gbadamosi (BOG) ADP Lagos State Governorship aspirant in a live video  condemns SANWO OLU's administration over last night's traffic gridlock along Awoyaya, Lekki-Epe Expressway which took road users more than 3hours before leaving the area for their destinations.

The traffic which lasted till late in the midnight did not have any road officials to manage the situation.

According to BOG, he claimed that the Lagos State government had been doing nothing but telling lies and praise-singing. 

He mentioned that the Lekki-Epe Expressway road expansion is the most expensive of all and yet nothing to show for it.

He, therefore, can on all Lagosians who by any means caught up in traffic wherever to always do a live video do as to inform the government of the status quo.

Ex-Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe’s burial date announced

Former Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe’s funeral date has been announced.

Mugabe died in the early hours of last Friday at the age of 95 in Singapore where he had been receiving medical treatment since April.

Recall that Mugabe, the longest-serving president of Zimbabwe, was forced to resign in 2017, following a protracted intraparty crisis.

He was succeeded by his estranged deputy, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a government statement, on Monday announced that Mugabe’s funeral will take place on Sunday, September 15.

According to the memo to diplomats accredited to Harare, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said a funeral service for Mugabe will be held on Saturday in the National Sports Stadium, before his burial on Sunday.

The ministry did not indicate where Mugabe, who has since been declared a national hero, will be buried.

According to the country’s tradition, national heroes and heroines are buried at the National Heroes Acre, a hilltop in the capital Harare; although families may opt for another burial place.

In the memo, the ministry said Heads of State and Government wishing to attend the state funeral service on Saturday should arrive in Harare on Friday.

“Heads of State/Government are expected to depart immediately after the ceremony, taking into consideration that Government authorities will be fully occupied with preparations for the burial service/ceremony reserved for Sept. 15.

“The full programme for the funeral service will be made available in due course.’’

The government has said it will send a high-powered delegation led by Vice President Kembo Mohadi to Singapore on Monday to help with the repatriation of Mugabe’s body.

His body is expected to arrive in the country on Wednesday.

BREAKING: Tribunal sacks PDP lawmaker, declares APC winner

The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital on Monday sacked the lawmaker representing Ikwo\Ezza South Federal Constituency, Lazarus Ogbee and declared Chinedu Ogar of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner.

Ogbee, who contested the 2019 election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Justice Sika Henry Aprioku-led tribunal also declared his opponent and plaintiff in the matter, Ogar of the APC as the winner of the election.

Ogar of the APC had challenged the results of the election, claiming that his votes were erroneously reduced by the electoral umpire, INEC to favour the PDP candidate.

The tribunal agreed with the petitioner and restored the votes cancelled in over 10,000 wards by INEC.

The final results of the election should be 36,238 votes for the APC as against PDP’s 33,263 votes.

The tribunal directed the electoral umpire to immediately issue the APC candidate certificate of return and withdraw the one issued earlier to the PDP candidate.

COZA saga: Busola Dakolo reveals her demand from Fatoyinbo

Photographer, Busola Dakolo has demanded apology from Biodun Fatoyinbo, Senior Pastor, Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, COZA, for allegedly raping her 20 years ago.

She told a High Court in Abuja that the rape had adversely affected her marital sex life and demanded a letter of apology to show remorse for his action.

Dakolo had accused Fatoyinbo of defiling her 20 years ago when she was 16 years old in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Fatoyinbo had since denied the allegation and was recently grilled by the police in Abuja over the issue.

Dakolo, in a suit filed on her behalf by her lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi and Co of Law corridor, asked the court to declare that Fatoyinbo’s denial of his alleged acts contained jointly and/or severally through a press statement he released on June 28 2019, had caused her continuous emotional distress and amounted to intentional infliction of emotional distress on her.

Olajengbesi said, “The claimant avers that she was immediately terrified and in shock while the defendant pinned her down on the couch following which he caressed her body, fondled her breasts, pulled her pant, quickly half-pulled his trousers and ordered her to allow him have his way with her.

“The claimant avers that the defendant in the process used his hand to cover her mouth, thereby muffling her screams. The claimant avers that the defendant made efforts to penetrate her vagina, whilst she struggled to fight him off; however, the defendant overpowered her and penetrated her vagina and had sexual intercourse with her.”

“The claimant avers that while she was in shock of the incident which had rendered her befuddled and mortified, the defendant rushed out of the living room area of her family home and briefly returned with a bottle of soda (Krest) which he forced down her throat thereby making her breathing difficult,” he said in a report by PUNCH.

BREAKING: COZA: Court summons Busola Dakolo, Pastor Fatoyinbo over rape allegation

The Federal High Court, sitting in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Monday, summoned founder of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, Biodun Fatoyinbo and Mrs. Busola Dakolo, wife of popular musician, Timi Dakolo, to appear before it within 14 days.

Busola, the wife of music star, Timi Dakolo, had made some explosive disclosures about COZA Pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo.

She accused the cleric of raping her when she was still very young.

Fatoyinbo had since reacted to the reports, denying ever raping the woman.

Fatoyinbo admitted that Busola Dakolo and her family “attended the church during the early start of the church in 1999”, but claims he “never had any private interactions with her beyond my pastoral duties”

The case has since lingered and several other claims being made by both parties.
